Take a Look

NCAA proposes taunting, concussion rules. The AP has a story.

Incoming defensive end Steven Stafford is seen in this highlight video from his first four games last fall with Tennessee's Evangelical Christian School. The 6-foot-3, 225-pound Mr. Football Winner had 69 tackles 13 sacks and six forced fumbles in 10 games. His commitment was noted on the BGA blog here.

Like running back "Mighty Moe" Richardson (BGA blog post), Oklahoma wide receiver/punter/athlete Austin Katigan will have to wait until admissions go out to learn if he'll have a chance to play football at Dartmouth. OklahomanOnline.com reports the senior at Casady School in Oklahoma City had 17 catches for 268 yards and four touchdowns last fall and punted 49 times for a 37.0 average. He also had 34 tackles and two interceptions.

Katigan is listed at 5-foot-9, 172 pounds on this site and was honored as a Little All-City honorable mention. (link) He was the 2009 Oklahoma City first-team private-school punter and was selected to the 2009 Texas PSCA All-Star game. For a highlight video of Katigan, click here. (For fun, keep an eye open for No. 26 on the Heritage Hall team. He's a sophomore by the name of Barry Sanders Jr.)

CBSSport.com columnist Ray Ratto of the San Francisco Chronicle has a piece about the possible expansion of the Pac-10. You wouldn't think that would have much to do with the Ivy League and it doesn't, except for this quip at the start:
So the Pacific 10 Conference, the only conference other than the Ivy that resists change the way most people resist eating creamed kale, is talking about expansion. After only 33 years, well, la-di-dah.
Just stumbled across a story I freelanced for Dartmouth on hockey senior Joe Gaudet, whose head coach at Dartmouth happens to be his father, Bob. Find the story here.

The Dartmouth College organizational structure continues to change. A story in today's Daily Dartmouth includes an interesting chart. From the story:
Acting Dean of the College Sylvia Spears has begun reorganizing the Dean of the College’s Office, in order to create an organization that will have “fewer dean-level positions at the senior leadership level” that is more effective and less expensive, Spears said ...
An article in The New Yorker looks at the Yale recruiting video (for the college, not sports and most definitely not football), That's Why I Chose Yale. Or as some bloggers are calling it, That's Why I Chose (insert other Ivy school here). In case you missed it, here's a link to the video.

MISSED THIS EARLIER. From a story in today's Daily Dartmouth about ice hockey:
Yes, I understand the appeal of the Princeton rivalry, but don’t we want to make fun all our other opponents, too? What about heckling the Yale team for “That’s Why I Chose Yale?” If you don’t know what I am talking about stop reading and type that phrase into YouTube and watch — now. It will make you say, “That’s Why I Chose Dartmouth.”

And finally, posting on the BGA blog may be sporadic next week. With college looming for that certain Hanover High School senior and a summer away as a camp counselor before then, vacation chances are limited. So we are using next week's school break to play tourist in New York City. We'll be wandering the Big Apple Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, and plan to hit the usual spots. We're even looking into taking the kids to their first NBA game on Wednesday if we can score some seats for the Knicks-Bulls at reasonable prices ;-)

The irony, of course, is that while it would be nice (and expensive) to be going somewhere warm, at least we will be able to get our snow jones fed ... in New York City!
