Austin Katigan, a three-sport student athlete and member of Casady School's Class of 2010, has accepted Dartmouth College's offer of admission to its Class of 2014. He will also play football for the college. And ....
Assistant Coach Jarrail Jackson, (former University of Oklahoma wide receiver and punt returner), who coaches wide receivers, was an instrumental part of Austin’s admission.Looking ahead another year, a linebacker in Florida has heard from Dartmouth and all the Ivy League schools not in New York State ;-) Find the story here.
Joe Asch over at Dartblog thinks the three-part series in the Valley News about the state of Dartmouth athletics hit the mark. I can't vouch for the numbers and clearly it's not only about the championships, but if you are a Big Green supporter a message board post does not paint a pretty picture of the championship distribution around the league since 1999-2000.
With Yale kicking off spring practice, the school's football page has a look at prospects for the 2010 Bulldog season.
Brown will take to the field on Friday and a look at the Bear prospects reminds us that while coach Phil Estes is losing some dynamic offensive talent, he still, "returns first team All-Ivy quarterback Kyle Newhall-Caballero, and the dynamic running duo of second team All-Ivy Zack Tronti and Spiro Theodhisi."
Former Dartmouth basketball assistant Mike Maker has been named Division III National Co-Coach of the Year after leading Williams to a 30-2 record and the national championship game this winter. Maker, who has a 47-11 (.810) career record with the Ephs, was at the Dartmouth-Williams baseball game yesterday with Williams AD Harry Sheehy and told a reporter he withdrew from the Dartmouth head coaching search Monday night.
The Cornell Sun writes about Steve Donahue leaving Cornell to take over the basketball program at Boston College. ... Not surprisingly, the Boston Globe story writes that, "whether Donahue can recruit scholarship players after a dozen years in the nonscholarship environment of the Ivy League remains a question mark."
Green Alert Take: That's a silly question. Anyone who watched Donahue's team the past few years saw not only could he recruit scholarship players, but he could get them to come to Ithaca and pay their way. You don't think some of those guys like Wittman, Foote and Dale were scholarship players? Beyond that, I was looking over Chris Lincoln's book Playing the Game yesterday and it was a reminder that recruiting with scholarships in hand is easier, and in a lot of cases, a cleaner process. (Here's a 2006 Q&A with Chris Lincoln I did for the blog.)
Strange stuff going on down at Yale where the Yale Daily reports that, "The company formerly headed by John Mazzuto ’70, who donated at least $1.7 million to Yale’s baseball program, is preparing to sue the University to recover Mazzuto’s gift, which the company says included illegally issued stock."
