Cornell quarterback Jeff Mathews is the only Ivy Leaguer among the 20 players on The Sports Network's initial 2013 Payton Award Watch list for the top player in the FCS. Interestingly, Mathews is joined on the list by fellow quarterback Gavin McCarney of Colgate.Mathews and McCarney will square off on Oct. 5 at Cornell's Schoellkopf Field in a game that could see a lot of yards racked up.
Cornell was No. 22 in the nation last year in total offense while finishing 108th of 121 schools in yards allowed. Colgate was No. 4 in total offense and 91st of 121 in yards allowed.
