Coming to The Woods?

This was posted in 2007 but I can't say I've ever seen it before . . .

Sorry to say, I'm not a huge fan of the moose. If the idea is simply a mascot sans a new nickname, I think someone dressed up like like a lumberjack patrolling The Woods with a chainsaw or an axe might be pretty cool.

You know how some schools have a bell toll, or play the sound of an growling animal over the PA system when the other team faces a third down? How about the sound of a chainsaw at Memorial Field? And how about the sound of a chainsaw and then a tree falling after each win?

OK, so no lumberjack would actually wear Bean boots, but it does kind of fit the Dartmouth image, don't you think?
Three UNH recruits and two walk-ons that Dartmouth may see next month will be on Memorial Field this evening representing the Granite State in the annual Shrine Maple Sugar Bowl game pitting graduated seniors from New Hampshire against their counterparts from Vermont.

Dartmouth wide receiver Daniel Gorman of Hanover participated in the game two years ago. Defensive back Cody Patch of Lebanon was chosen as a running back the year before but missed the game with an injury.
UNH football reports for camp tomorrow. The Wildcats open the season Aug. 30 at Toledo. Dartmouth, which played UNH on Sept. 27, opens practice three days before UNH opens the season.
Check out this LINK for a short story and sweet video of former Dartmouth assistant Pete Lembo awarding a former walk-on a scholarship at Ball State.
Kyle Hendricks continues to draw raves. The Dartmouth product earned his second big league win yesterday for the Chicago Cubs, allowing one earned run in an 8-2 win over the Dodgers and getting a couple of hits in the process. LINK (The game was on WGN last night and I watched ... until I fell asleep ;-). One of That Certain Nittany Lion's friends going to school at Georgia Tech texted him that he was going to order a Hendricks jersey if he got another win. Well, here's the LINK if you want one of your own!
Dartmouth Now has a blurb pointing to a story headlined, Career Success for Tuck's Class of 2014. LINK

That Certain '14 will be attending the new Tuck Business Bridge December program. LINK She will wrap up her summer at Colorado National Monument later this month, student teach through Dartmouth's Teacher Education Program from September until Thanksgiving, do the Bridge program in December and start her new job in Wisconsin in January. I'm getting tired just writing out her schedule but I sure wish I had her resume ;-)
