A screen grab from last night's game |
Former Dartmouth defensive end Niko Lalos didn't hurt his chances of earning a spot on the New York Giants roster in last night's 12-7 loss to the New York Jets. He was credited with one solo tackle and four assists in the preseason opener.
An NJ.com piece listed the outside linebacker – who made a splash with Big Blue last year after being elevated from the practice squad – among "a few standouts" in the game. From the story (LINK):
OLB Niko Lalos: The Dartmouth alum just always seems to be around the ball. He got a couple of pressures on the Jets backup quarterbacks and stuffed a run for a two-yard loss.
The Yahoo Sports "GiantsWire" didn't write anything up specifically on Lalos but did include him in a list of the night's "winners." (LINK)

EXTRA POINT
I headed out for my daily hike a few minutes before 6 this morning and the usual two-mile ride to the trailhead ended up being twice that long. Although I didn't notice heavy winds last night a pretty substantial tree had blown down and completely blocked the winding dirt road, forcing me to back up 300 feet or so to a place where I could make a U-turn so I could take a different road to the trailhead. That was a bit of a hassle, but it was worth it.
As I've noted here before, when I hike I usually listen to podcasts and today I was so engrossed in a program about Grand Canyon that I was stunned at one point to look around and realize I was already at the top of the trail's longest climb. For the first time ever, I didn't even notice that I had been going up a steep slope.
Speaking of steep slopes, check out a nifty presentation of the 30-mile run/hike That Certain Dartmouth '14 did yesterday up, over and around the Maroon Bells Wilderness on her first full day back in Colorado. The challenging hike is called The Four Pass Loop and she shot the photos accompanying the presentation. (LINK)
