From the story:

HANOVER, N.H. — The Football Championship Subdivision Athletics Directors Association (FCS ADA) announced its 24th Annual Academic All-Star Team comprised of 50 individuals. Among the honorees was Dartmouth senior Calvin Atkeson, who was one of six Ivy Leaguers chosen for the distinction. The 50 individuals were selected from a pool of 113 applicants.

And . . .

Atkeson, a 6-5, 300-pound offensive lineman from Raleigh, North Carolina, started nine of the 10 games for the Ivy League champion and was named an All-Ivy League honorable mention. The applied mathematics major with a 3.70 GPA was instrumental in making the Big Green offense one of the most balanced and potent in the league with a conference-best 193.7 yards per game on the ground and 212.3 more through the air. And while no team in the circuit ran fewer plays on offense, Dartmouth was second in the league in total yards (4,060) to average nearly a yard more per play than anyone in the Ancient Eight.

Did you know that Terry Bowden is the head football coach at Louisiana Monroe? You can bet John Paul Flores does after the Big Green offensive lineman in the transfer portal received an offer to join Bowden' ULM program.

The FCS championship game between 13-1 North Dakota State and 12-2 Montana State is slated to kick off today at noon on ESPN2.

Also on tap today is the All-American Bowl featuring top graduated seniors playing at the Alamodome in San Antonio. That kicks off at 1 p.m. on NBC.

EXTRA POINT
Something different today . . . a picture from the archives. This shot from the Beartooth Pass in Wyoming was taken during my second cross-country bicycle ride after I finished grad school. Over a 12-mile span the elevation of the road rises more than 5,700 feet. I chose this part of the route after reading that Charles Kuralt called the Beartooth America's most beautiful drive. For what it's worth, my ride started on the Pacific Coast Highway and included a pass through Yellowstone, both of which deserve to be in the conversation with the Beartooth, which lived up to the billing.
