Every year the New England Football Writers tap me to be the Gold Helmet selector and choose the outstanding performances at the Division I and Division II-III levels one week each fall. I'm not going to lie. It can be a real headache. There are usually way too many statistically deserving performances at the II-III level and too often not a whole lot to choose from at the DI level. It's always great to be able to pick a defensive player, but that opportunity doesn't come along very often.
This week's selector had easy pickins' at the DI level, rightfully going with Dartmouth defensive lineman Charles Looes. Find the NEFW press release HERE.
Not surprisingly, Looes also was chosen the Ivy League defensive player of the week. The Ivy release summarized his game this way (LINK):
• Had four sacks and two forced fumbles in Dartmouth’s 23-21 win over Princeton
• One of his forced fumbles was a strip sack, which set up a field goal
• His four sacks is tied for the second most in a single game in the FCS this season
Dartmouth kicker Owen Zalc was also recognized by the Ivy League, winning special teams player of the week distinction. The Ivy release summarized his game (LINK):
• Perfect 3-for-3 on field goal attempts in Dartmouth’s win
• Hit the game-winning 47-yarder, matching his career long, to give the Big Green the lead with 1:28 left
• Was 2-for-2 on PATs and had two touchbacks on kickoffs
Dartmouth quarterback Jackson Proctor and defensive back Sean Williams were named to the Ivy honor roll.

When I bought my new MacBook Air late this summer we received three free months of Apple+ TV. When an email arrived telling me I was running up against the deadline for activating the subscription I finally did so. Mrs. BGA and I don't usually watch much other than news, sports and Jeopardy, but out of curiosity we gave Ted Lasso a look and are quite enjoying it. The good news is that we've got a little more than a month left of the Apple+ trial, which should give us just enough time to finish the series. The better news is ol' Ted has no new episodes planned ,so when our trial is over there won't be even a hint of a temptation to actually pay for the streaming service.
