Catching Up

Happy September!

Although this site had a rare quiet day yesterday while we traveled, BGA Overtime introduced you last night to new Dartmouth defensive coordinator Jordan Belfiori HERE . Come back tonight for a recap of the last several days, and a look ahead to the first scrimmage of the fall.

A story out of South Florida may surprise a few people. Here's the headline: 5 best quarterbacks in liami Dolphins history.

OK, you've probably figured it out why it's on this page, so here's what it has to say about the QB who came in at No. 5 (LINK):
Anyone who grew up using the Jason Taylor and Zach Thomas-era Dolphins on "Madden" likely remembers (Jay) Fiedler. Undrafted out of Dartmouth in 1994, the Ivy League standout bounced around professional football for several years and even played for the NFL Europe's Amsterdam Admirals.

The Dolphins gambled on Fiedler ahead of the 2000 season, and he responded by winning 10 of his 15 starts. Fiedler completed 58.4% of his passes for 11,040 yards, 66 touchdowns, and 63 interceptions over his five years in Miami. Most importantly: He's the most recent Dolphins quarterback to win a playoff game, as of publishing.

For the record, here's how the story ranks the Dolphins' top five:

1 Dan Marino
2 Bob Griese
3 Tua Tagovailoa
4 Ryan Tannehill
5 Jay Fiedler

The Tampa Free Press has a story about a running back you know headlined, Need A Haircut? Real Estate Tip? USF’s D.J. Crowther Might Soon Provide One While Performing The Other that includes this from the spring Dartmouth graduate talking about his time in Hanover (LINK):

“It was a great opportunity to be able to experience the Ivy League and be around a lot of great-minded people. It was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity being in a prestigious academic environment.”

#

And speaking of spring graduates, the courts are allowing safety Sean Williams to suit up for Arkansas, but he probably won't see the field this week. Find a story HERE.

A little preseason respect for Dartmouth, which gets eight votes in the new FCS coaches poll:

EXTRA POINT
On the long drive home from Maine's Acadia National Park yesterday we spotted a sign on a local business that brought smiles. It said:
