This, That And More

BGA Overtime offered a look ahead to today's first scrimmage of fall camp last night, and will have coverage of the action this evening  HERE.

We start today with something from Football Scoop that hasn't gotten as much attention as it probably should. From a story headlined FCS to allow joint practices in spring, other changes (LINK):

The FCS Oversight Committee is recommending a number of changes to the calendar, the NCAA announced Tuesday. If approved by the Division I Cabinet next month, they would go into effect on Jan. 1.

Most importantly, FCS teams would be allowed to conduct joint practices with other 4-year schools during spring practices.

Green Alert Take: This would be groundbreaking, and it will be interesting to see how the Ivy League responds if the rule is enacted.

Additionally, the Oversight Committee is changing the off-season schedule to allow more activity during the spring and summer, and in turn would shorten fall camp. Teams could conduct up to 21 practices split over two periods during the spring and summer, mirroring the NFL's OTA model. The OTAs could not exceed seven weeks in total, and no period could stretch longer than five weeks individually.

Dartmouth grad transfer Zyion Freer-Brown had seven tackles at linebacker in The Citadel's season-opening loss to Wofford. Here's an interview with him prior to the start of the season:

And on the subject of grad transfers, Daniel Haughton, whose season was ended early last year by injury, caught five passes for 87 yards – including a 49-yarder – in Furman's season opening win.

EXTRA POINT
When That Certain Dartmouth '14 lived and worked in Yellowstone, Grand Canyon and the Everglades, no native speaker ever mispronounced the names of the parks. OK, maybe they did, but if so, I never heard it.

While we were visiting TCD'14 and That Fellow at Acadia National Park last weekend, I joked about the common mistake people make pronouncing the name of the Maine park while we were enjoying the signature popovers at Jordan Pond House. Just a few minutes later, we heard a woman in the restaurant gift shop talking too loudly on her phone to someone about getting a T-shirt or some other souvenir at ARcadia National Park. Her timing couldn't have been better. ;-)
